HTC (High Tech Computer Corporation) is a Taiwanese electronics company founded in 1997. Originally a manufacturer of laptops and PDAs, HTC became a pioneer in the smartphone industry. It was one of the first companies to produce Android smartphones, launching the HTC Dream (also known as the T-Mobile G1) in 2008—the world’s first Android-powered phone.

HTC gained popularity in the early 2010s with its premium design and innovative features in models like the HTC One series. The brand was praised for its build quality, BoomSound speakers, and clean user interface.

However, despite early success, HTC struggled to maintain market share amid rising competition from Apple, Samsung, and Chinese brands. In 2018, Google acquired a portion of HTC’s smartphone division to bolster its Pixel phone development.

Today, HTC has largely shifted focus to virtual reality (VR) with its Vive lineup, while continuing limited smartphone production. Though no longer a major smartphone player, HTC is remembered as a mobile industry innovator.
